Does this sound like you?
Having feelings of being disconnected, experiencing disrupted sleep patterns, unexplainable irritability/anger, emotional numbness, difficulty concentrating, or repeated patterns of issues in interpersonal relationships?
I use a holistic transpersonal approach to dealing with past and current traumas. Time is spent with me in individual sessions talking though the mind/body dynamics of your issues on a personal level, while simultaneously utilizing breathwork support groups as a means of accessing your life force or spirit in order to sustain your healing.
Because individuals who experience trauma tend to repress or avoid emotions and/or thoughts relating to the event (s), Transpersonal Counseling is a wonderful holistic approach to avoidance by making the unconscious conscious.
The Process
The Transpersonal Counseling process involves the integration of traditional Western therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, with Eastern Contemplative and other World Spiritual Wisdoms.
The beginning of the process involves a consultation with you telling me what you believe your issues are and me telling you whether I can help you or if I can offer you a referral to someone who can best address your issues.
If we decide to work together, our next session will involve paperwork which includes an Informed Consent form, that discusses the parameters and scope of what can and cannot be done during our work together, as well as other administrative, historical and demographic information.
As our therapy sessions begin, we will explore any distorted/negative thought patterns and the meaning you give to them (cognitive), which impact unwanted and limiting behaviors (behavioral). Next, we will agree on short term goals that will guide the content of our sessions, as well as homework done outside our sessions (therapy).
Another aspect of my practice is the integration of Eastern Contemplative and World Spiritual Wisdoms. The type of Eastern Contemplative practice I use is Transpersonal Breathworks, which is considered to be a more intense form of meditative/contemplative practice and I offer it in group sessions.
Through a process of rapid breathing and music that has repetitive and evocative rhythms, members access a deep level consciousness which are not usually accessible in traditional therapy. This deep process is vital to accessing the inner healer.
The breathing process is followed by a period of creative expression such as the drawing of mandalas, and group sharing. Prior to participating in breathworks, members must attend a breathworks informational session, which explains the process in depth.
The aspect of integrating World Spiritual Wisdoms simply put, is utilizing whatever spiritual orientation you have, as a resource to support personal healing.
